Cheating dignity: A direct care wage crisis in America

Abstract

This report from AFSCME examines 1999 national and state median hourly wage and employment estimates for direct-care workers, concluding that our nation fails to pay direct-care workers self-sufficient wages and benefits. The report uses a self-sufficiency standard developed by Wider Opportunities for Women that measures how much income is needed for a family to meet its basic needs.
