Vera Salter is Director of the National Clearinghouse on the
Direct Care Workforce. Vera has over 25 years of experience in health care
administration, consulting, research, and policy. Most recently she co-owned
a national planning and marketing firm that consulted with clients across the
continuum of health and long-term care services. She holds a Ph.D. in sociology
with a concentration in health services research from the University of Pittsburgh.
She received her bachelor's and master's degrees in the United Kingdom.
Rob
Callaghan is PHI's Research Associate. He researches and writes
materials for the Clearinghouse and other projects, building on the work
he began as a PHI intern in October 2003. Prior to joining PHI, Rob interned
at an economic justice organization and a domestic violence shelter. He graduated
from Hampshire College with a focus in sociology, psychology and social theory
and is currently pursuing a master’s degree in social research at Hunter
College.
Elise
Nakhnikian is PHI's Communications Specialist. As
editor of Quality Jobs/Quality Care, the biweekly e-mail newsletter
of the National Clearinghouse on the Direct Care Workforce, she writes the
newsletter and the news articles posted on the Clearinghouse. She also handles
media relations for PHI, contributes to the development of the Clearinghouse
and PHI websites, and provides editorial support to other PHI staff. Before
joining PHI, Elise was a journalist for about 20 years, including five as editor-in-chief
of Contemporary Long Term Care magazine and two as editor of two websites
for long-term care providers. She graduated from the University of Michigan.
Leslie
Ramirez is PHI's Administrative/Library associate.
Leslie provides administrative support for the National Clearinghouse on the
Direct Care Workforce and other PHI programs as needed. Leslie has previous
administrative and retail experience and volunteered as a counselor for children
at New York's University Settlement for four years. She attended Mohawk Valley
Community College and received additional training through Brooklyn's Adolescent
Employment and Education Program, and she is currently pursuing a bachelor
of science in biology at Marymount Manhattan College.
Irma Rivera is PHI's Director of Information
Technology and has over seven years experience in public service and computer
systems. She is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining the
organization's network infrastructure and is currently managing PHI's websites.
Irma received her MPA from the Robert Wagner School of Public Service at
New York University and her bachelor's from the College of New Rochelle in
New Rochelle, New York. She completed the MCSE (Microsoft Certified Systems
Engineer) coursework in 2000.
Allison Slaughter is the Program Associate for the National
Clearinghouse on the Direct Care Workforce. She is responsible for researching
and writing materials, maintaining the Clearinghouse website and library, responding
to research requests from users, and contributing to the Clearinghouse’s
news reporting. She also participates in the development of Clearinghouse initiatives.
Prior to joining PHI, Allison worked in investment consulting and development
research. She has a BA in Political Science and Chinese from Bates College.
Allison is currently working on obtaining a Master’s degree in public
administration and finance from New York University’s Wagner School of
Public Service.
